Edgar Then And Now

We were delighted to hear about Edgar from our summer 2015 litter.  I found this photo of Edgar and his people (in the archived blog posts) from the day they went home together in August of 2015.

This is what they recently sent…

“Greetings from Wisconsin!  We hope you’re all doing well and enjoying the fall colors (and smells).  Just wanted to pop in with a quick update from our neck of the woods.  Nick and Edgar went out last weekend for pheasant opener and have been out three times already, snagging a bird each day!  Edgar also got his first wild woodcock last week.  He’s honing his skills and things are getting pretty exciting around here.  I’ve attached a few snapshots – such a proud boy, and we are proud of the work he’s doing.  Thanks again for such a wonderful boy – we can’t say it enough.”

Update On Chev’s Offspring

Chev has fathered two litters within the past year and his “kids” are doing well.

Aspen, who is shy of a year old, won a Prize 1 (perfect score of 112) at a NAVHDA Natural Ability test in September.  NAVHDA stands for North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association and those Prize 1’s don’t come easily. Aspen also won ribbons at the AWPGA Specialty Show in Boise, Idaho last weekend.  He’s hunted his first grouse and woodcock, too.

Sasha, who is just about four months old, lives east of us in Minnesota. She’s a beauty, living a great puppy life. She’s had her first boat ride and recently graduated from Puppy Kindergarten. Her person reported, “She did three commands…sit, down, and stand…and two tricks: shake and spin.”

Amazing Puppy!

Huge congratulations to Poppy and her breeder, Sheryl Diernfeld from Ft. Collins, Colorado.

“Poppy,” one of the puppies from Sheryl’s Fall 2018 litter (Chev is the sire and Piper is the mom) killed it today in the NAVHDA Natural Ability test, earning a Prize II. What’s remarkable is that Poppy is just 5 and a half months old!  She proved her ability in four areas.  From the NAVHDA website:

The next litter for “Mama” Piper and “Papa” Chev is on the way, expected in early June. We have been thrilled at the quality of puppies that have come from their pairing, thus the repeat breeding – coarse coats, wonderful temperaments and amazing natural hunting ability.

(Note… Sorry for the poor spacing/formatting. I’ve been wrestling with WordPress, but not having much luck.)

Announcement Of The Next Chev Litter

Chev’s next litter is expected in early June, 2019 in Colorado, a second breeding to Wirehaired Griffons of Colorado’s Piper.  The puppies in their first breeding were beautiful and applications are being accepted for prospective families for the summer 2019 litter.  They’ll be bred here and whelped in Ft. Collins, Colorado.  Contact Biff (612 382-3060) or Sheryl Dierenfield (970 581-4676) for more information.

Norling Rise’s Hunting Griffs

Again, we’ve received some great photos from former puppies.

First up, there’s Edgar from Wisconsin, from our “B” litter.  He’s having a great well-loved life near Madison, Wisconsin

Next is Forest, also from the “B” litter and the photo tells the tale… quack!!

And, finally, there’s our own Chev, from just before Thanksgiving.  Biff’s had a successful season so far, finding a good number of pheasant roosters (and lots of hens) here in Minnesota, some of them close to home.  All four of our Griffs have been out hunting a couple of times each week. Such a great time of the year!

Stache and Mavis Updates

Stache was from our “A” litter and Mavis was from our “B” litter. Both are living great lives in Minnesota.  Here’s what their people shared with us. First, Stache…

“We just wanted to check in to say hello and to tell you how much we are in love with Stache. Each day we just love him more and more. He may the most handsome dog we have ever seen :).
Stache is looking forward to getting out to hunt this fall.
Thanks again for selling us this wonderful dog.”

Mavis lives up north and has been killing it in obedience competitions.  Her person wrote:

“Our club had our annual awards dinner last night. Mavis earned 3 awards. One for the highest scoring dog at an obedience trial this year. She has been lots of fun to train and show.  One of the awards was the highest single score at an AKC obedience trial (198 out of possible 200) the other award is the RENO award for the highest average of all scores ( 197.8) and the green ribbon she’s wearing is for her obedience title.

She is so much fun to work, play and live with! John will add … to hunt and snuggle with!”

December 2018 Litter Announcement

We’re happy to announce the breeding of our “Chev” (GCH Ch Ear Mountains Butch Cassidy JH NAI) to “Piper” (GCH CH Dierenfields Piper on Debut) of Colorado.  Piper visited for a few days last week and, if all goes as planned, a litter of puppies will be arriving in early December.   Here are some photos of mama dog, Piper.  And here’s a link to Dierenfields’ website: http://www.wirehairedgriffonsofcolorado.com/

The awards they won included: First Prize, Sweepstakes; Best in Sweepstakes; Best Owner Handler; Award of Merit; Best Veteran and a Group 3 Owner Handler.

More News From Mavis

We received great news about Mavis from the “B” litter.  Kudos to Mavis and her person, Ann, who does all the work with her. We’re so proud of you both!

“Mavis rocked this weekend. Four, 1st places, earned her Companion Dog title, took highest scoring dog in the tril today. Her scores were 198, 197.5, 198 and another 197.5 out of possible 200. Thanks again for bring her into our lives.”
