Pedigrees

One of the starting places for assessing Griffons is to study their pedigrees. Great information is available on-line. A long-time breeder and judge has created and maintained an extensive database of Griffon pedigrees:

The Herrenhausen website is another great resource about the breed in general:

A note about the K Locus. There is currently a lot of discussion among some Griffon owners about the issue of whether or not their dogs are “KBKB”. Our dogs are KBKB.

Pedigrees are just one measure of a dog. But first and foremost in evaluating a Griffon is to know the breed standard and then examine for yourself the dog’s structure, coat, movement, and temperament. If possible, it’s best to examine both sire and dam, hoping that puppies take the best from both parents. Both good conformation and hunt ability are the two cornerstones of a long-lasting Griffon.
