Hunt

Hunting is the reason that we got into Griffons. Whether it’s pheasants in the field, ducks in marshes or grouse and woodcock in the woods, Griffons perform well in all of these settings. Although easy going in the house, they are machines when they get outside. Griffs’ characteristics combine the best of pointer and retrievers’ best qualities. They are also loyal and loving companions.

We hunt test our dogs in both NAVHDA (North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association) and the AKC (American Kennel Club) tests.

You will likely come across the phrase Korthals Griffons. In Europe Wirehaired Pointing Griffons are called Korthals Griffons, named after Eduard Korthals, who is credited for developing the breed.

In 2012 the first Korthals Cup, a hunt test competition just for Griffons, was held in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in conjunction with the AWPGA (American Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Association) Specialty Show. The Korthals Cup is a particular competition for Griffons that are proven versatile hunters. Many Griffon folks are hoping for future Korthals Cup events. We’ll post news of future Korthals Cup events when they are scheduled.
