Although the puppies are still very much babies with their multiple naps and frequent nursing, they have been getting playful with each other, so we scrubbed the puppy chew toys last night and introduced a couple of them today. They sniffed them and did a little bit of mouthing them (still toothless.) Soon enough they’ll be scrapping over them, but for now the play was peaceful.

Visitors :)
The puppies (and Finley) received lots of attention from family members who came out to visit. Niece-in-law Jamie, grand-nephew Logan, sister-in-law Lynn and niece Sara spent time snuggling the puppies. The puppies cooperated by accepting all the love.
Special thanks to Lynn who cleaned up the pee-fest that followed the naps in laps.
Lapful Of Napping Puppies
Personalities Emerging!
Mama Finley
Although Finley seems to be enjoying longer stretches away from the puppies and time outdoors with Chev and Xupe, she dutifully returns to her puppies to sniff their back ends (attending to them as needed) and then she lies down to let them nurse. The two photos below were taken within seconds of each other. The first is Finley returning to her napping babies. They awaken upon her arrival and quickly make their way to their lunch as she stretches alongside them.
Action!
I take quite a few snapshots (using both my phone and my “real” camera) and most of the shots come out looking blurry because there’s so much movement going on. The puppies’ coordination seems to increase by the hour and they increasingly sit up and walk to get where they’re going. Even having seen this with past litters, we are constantly amazed.
Puppies – Day 16
2 Year Old Edgar
Up And Moving
These photos are from very early this morning. I’m not able to include video clips into this blog so I made a couple of snapshots from the video I took of #2 making another attempt to exit the whelping box. Notice his right paw on the edge in the photo below. We have a guard panel that fits into the “open” side of the pen that we’ve dropped into place now as he is not the only one looking out into the house and making efforts to escape. They’re doing this even as they are learning to stand and walk… and climb!
Up And Around
The light at daybreak wasn’t great, but I captured these photos of #2’s increasing mobility, navigating his way around the whelping box and looking up and out to what’s beyond. All of their eyes have started to open and they all respond well to snuggling with us. They’re still small enough that I can safely carry one on my arm and hand, tucked along my side, while I do small chores with my other hand.
